Ashley (アシュレイ,Ashurei?) is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in Sword Art Online (SAO) and worked as a tailor in the game. Ashley was widely regarded as Aincrad's number one tailor, owning a massive tailor shop called «Ashley's», which had two water wheels and was three times the size of Lisbeth's Smith Shop, in the northern section of Lindarth.[3] As a popular tailor, Ashley's policy was to only take custom jobs of interest, using only the rarest materials. Ashley later began playing ALfheim Online (ALO) where she also works as a tailor.[2]
In May 2025, Ashley was visited by Leafa, Lisbeth, Lux, and Silica, all of whom aside from Lux had come to request to have their clothes repaired. Although she admired Silica's appearance, the tailor refused to accept the job, as her schedule was packed. However, as Asuna had referred them to her, she was willing to handle the request before she had to leave to quest for ingredients, though she refused to lower her fee of a million Yrd for her work even for friends of her old client. When the girls protested at the price, Ashley chastised them for their ignorance on the extent of their plea and explained that their clothes had been afflicted with a hidden defense and magic resistance lowering debuff that could not be easily reversed. The cost of the special materials and labor needed to fully undo the damage was the reason for her exorbitant price.
Just as the dejected girls were about to leave, Ashley offered to provide some valuable information for answering her question. She revealed that she was aware of Lisbeth's identity as a master blacksmith from Sword Art Online and disclosed that one of the reasons why she decided to meet with the girls was the fact that she had witnessed the unique quality of one of Lisbeth's weapons when the blacksmith's reputation grew in prominence six months before the end of Sword Art Online. Thus, Ashley inquired if Lisbeth had any secrets on creating such high-quality items and, having learned that Lisbeth had met Kirito around that same time, she became excited, exclaiming that the love triangle among him, Asuna, and the blacksmith was the reason behind the excellence of the latter's wares.
Amused by the girls' subsequent reactions to Lisbeth's history with Kirito, Ashley was satisfied with the answer to her question. Although she was still unwilling to change policies for them, she informed them of a swimsuit contest, the prize for which was exactly enough to cover the expenses for the repairs. Declaring that swimsuits were the best outfit to reveal the natural charm of their wearer, Ashley challenged them to show her they had the worth to compel her to fix their outfits.
After Lux successfully won the grand prize for the contest, Ashley commended their accomplishments and decided to accept the request for repairs, though still refusing to offer any discounts. As the girls admired their restored outfits, Ashley added she had taken the liberty of redecorating the clothes and upgrading their stats. She also revealed she had crafted a new set of equipment for Lux free of charge, as she believed Lux would feel lonely if she was the only one with starting gear.
