Kirigaya Minetaka (桐ヶ谷峰嵩,Kirigaya Minetaka?) is the father of Suguha, as well as the uncle and adoptive father of Kazuto. He works overseas and is scarcely home, but he is shown to be supportive of his children when the opportunity is present.
Following the decision of his wife, Midori, he adopted Kazuto in 2008, after Midori's elder sister's death, and kept it a secret from the two children until Kazuto discovered the erased documents in the National registry in 2018. He has always worked overseas and both children have remarked about his absences over the course of the series.
While Kazuto was trapped in Sword Art Online, Minetaka along with Midori revealed the truth about Kazuto being an adopted child to Suguha at the hospital. They had been planning to wait until Suguha was in high school to tell her, but the possibility of Kazuto dying while in the game motivated them to do it sooner, while he was still alive.

Originally, Minetaka's name was written with different kanji, and was written as 厳喬. As of Volume 27, it was changed to 峰嵩.
