The «Objectors! ~VRMMO Development Tragedy~» (Objectors! ~VRMMO開発悲話~,Obujekutāzu! ~VRMMO Kaihatsu Hiwa~?) is a magazine bonus short story written by Kawahara Reki. It was initially released on WordGear, the author's personal website under the title «VRMMO Development Tragedy» (VRMMO開発悲話,VRMMO Kaihatsu Hiwa?).[citation needed] On December 10, 2014[1], the story was re-released as part of Dengeki Bunko MAGAZINE Vol.41.[citation needed] This rendition of the story included a newly-written epilogue for the story.
The story features an original duo of freelancers and their woes in fulfilling an order for creating pretty female models for a game. Unlike other Sword Art Online releases, this story does not feature any main or recurring characters from the Sword Art Online cast.
Okano Kouji and Fujita Shin who were part-time freelance object makers until one day they received a massive order from a mid-scale VRMMO game for pretty female models. As the order was too large for them to handle while also having part-time jobs, the two decided to quit their jobs to become full time object makers and invest the advance payment into a new office and a professional machine for their job.
However, when Fujita Shin visited the bank and withdrew the money from an ATM, he fell victim to a scam soon afterwards and lost all the money. While they were wondering what to do, Kouji remembered that he had seen an in-game terminal in a VRMMO game called LUNASCAPE. This terminal was linked to an actual computer that contained a copy of the «Solid Organizer» program, which they required for their work.
Having rented a small room, the duo spent ten days inside the game until they finished the order. At that point, however, the two men realised that they had no way of saving their data and bringing it back to the real world.
In the end, the two freelancers contacted the company which operated the game and succeeded in retrieving their files.
