Schmitt (シュミット,Shumitto?) is a supporting character in the Aincrad Arc. He is one of the 10,000 players who were trapped in «Sword Art Online». Schmitt used to be member of the Golden Apple guild, until he unknowingly assisted in the murder of their leader. When his original guild collapsed following this incident, Schmitt used the money he earned from the culprit to purchase gear that would earn him entry to the Divine Dragons Alliance guild. Eventually, Schmitt became the sub-leader of the guild's defense force.
Schmitt has short, sports-club-ace-like[1] brown[2] hair, thick eyebrows, a square jaw and a deep, magnetic-like voice.[1] As a member of DDA and a front-line tank, he wears high-ranked, heavy metal armor with silver and blue as the base colours.[1] In battle, he wields a 2 meter-long guard lance[1] and a tower shield.[3]
Personality[]
Although Schmitt appears to be a brave tank during battles, in reality, he is extremely afraid of death. Figuring that the rules of the game might change and towns might become unsafe at some point, he decided to "become sturdy" and thus put in a lot of effort in leveling up, though he chose the safest methods to do so. Because of his insistent philosophy of being "sturdy" and his hard work, he eventually became one of the strongest players in the game in terms of Hit Points (HP), equipment defense and defensive skills. Additionally, due to such a philosophy, he views people wearing light leather armour and using offense-oriented weapons as weirdos.[3]
During the events of A Murder Case in the Area, he was afraid of Griselda's ghost, because he thought that she was going to kill him. After witnessing Yolko's death, he decided to visit Griselda's grave, where he confesses that he had been given an order to set a crystal for Griselda's room and leave the crystal inside the guild inventory. This crystal helped in the murder of Griselda, while Schmitt was given a large amount of money, which he used to buy the necessary level of equipment to join the Divine Dragons Alliance to feel safe, because of his fear of death. Later he discovered that Yolko and Caynz had faked their deaths.
