The «Squad Jam» (スクワッド・ジャム, Sukuwaddo Jamu?) is a recurring team free-for-all tournament in Gun Gale Online that is only available on the Japanese server of the game.[1] The first tournament was sponsored by a gun action novelist[1], while the second tournament had an anonymous sponsor.[2]

The first Squad Jam was held on February 1, 2026.[1] Unlike the Bullet of Bullets, the first Squad Jam did not have preliminaries and was not broadcast on MMO Stream, although the tournament could be watched in-game.[1] The second Squad Jam began on April 4, 2026 at 13:00.[2] The preliminaries for the second tournament were held the day before the main tournament, on April 3, 2026.[2][3]

The tournament was inspired by the third Bullet of Bullets, during which Kirito and Sinon formed a team. Amazed by their teamwork, a novelist who watched the tournament contacted Zaskar, the company managing the game, and offered to sponsor a team tournament in the game. Zaskar agreed to host such a tournament, which the novelist dubbed Squad Jam, on the Japanese server.

Competition Rules[]

The rules for the Squad Jam tournament were based on the rules for the Bullet of Bullets, thus there are some similarities between the rules of the two tournaments. One of such similarities is that all participating teams are teleported to the tournament field at least a thousand metres away from each other. Additionally, the field for the tournament features a variety of terrain, both advantageous and disadvantageous. Furthermore, the participants may bring any weapon they please, including guns, explosives and knives, and may freely use the vehicles found in the field. Another similarity is that the corpses of dead players remain on the field with a "dead" tag, with no random drops occurring, during the tournament. Finally, a satellite scan is performed at fixed intervals throughout the tournament and players may use their Satellite Scan Terminals to see the location of other participants during the scan.[1]

However, unlike the Bullet of Bullets, only teams of two to six people may register for the Squad Jam, though team members are not protected from friendly fire.[1] Additionally, participants may bring communication devices but cannot communicate with dead players or anyone outside the field.[1] A big difference from the Bullet of Bullets is that players who die during the Squad Jam are teleported outside the field after ten minutes, rather than having to wait for the tournament to end to leave.[1] Furthermore, the satellite scan takes place every ten minutes, instead of every fifteen, as it was in the Bullet of Bullets.[1] Another important difference is that only the position of the team leader is displayed on the satellite scan map, while the positions of any other team member are not displayed.[1] The names of the other competing teams were also not displayed during the first Squad Jam;[1] however, as of the second tournament, the names of other teams could be checked by tapping on the dots representing them on the map.[3] Finally, only the team leader has the right to resign; the surrender of the team leader is regarded as the surrender of the entire team.[1]

If the leader of a team is killed during the tournament, the next highest-ranking member of the team assumes the position of the team leader. As the first Squad Jam did not have any preliminaries, all twenty-three teams that registered before the deadline entered the tournament.[1] Starting with the second tournament, preliminaries were held to reduce the number of participants to thirty teams; however, the leaders of the top five teams in the previous tournament were given the privilege of being seeded from the preliminaries.[2][3]

Tournament Stage[]

1st Squad Jam[]

The battlefield for the 1st Squad Jam.

The battlefield for the first Squad Jam was a ten-kilometre-wide area, enclosed by gorges to the west and east, mountains to the north, and over a hundred metre-high cliff to the south.[4] The gorges were created by the fin-stabilisers from the lower part of the hull of a giant spaceship that had an emergency landing in the area.[4]

The battlefield was divided into eight areas.[5] The northern side of the map consisted of two regions: a gently-sloping[4] grassland (AREA 1)[5] with unobstructed view[4] to the west and a forest (AREA 2) to the east.[5]

The central part of the map consisted of four areas: a marshland (AREA 3) and lake (AREA 6) to the west, a residential area (AREA 4) in the centre, and an urban area (AREA 5) to the east.[5] The residential area, part of which was submerged, was a mazeway of roads and low-class houses.[4] A river streamed on the southern and eastern edges of the area, connecting to the lake in AREA 6.[5][4] The urban area was a ruins of a large city, with wide streets and still standing skyscrapers.[4] The marshland to the west was created by a crashed spaceship, still piercing the ground in an almost perpendicular manner.[4]

The southern side of the map, spanning three kilometres in length, is an open area dotted with rocks,[4] consisting of a wasteland region (AREA 7), and a desert region (AREA 8).[5]

2nd Squad Jam[]

The battlefield for the 2nd Squad Jam.

The battlefield for the second Squad Jam was a square, ten kilometre-wide area, enclosed by around sixty-metre-high castle wall-like structures.[6] The western wall was marked with vertical stripes, while the northern wall was marked with horizontal stripes.[6]

The battlefield was divided into seven areas.[7] The western side of the map consisted of a three-kilometre-wide town region (AREA 1), continuing all the way from the north to the south.[6] The town's roads systematically divided the town into a grid.[6] A railway extended throughout the town from the south to the north at roughly the centre of the the town.[6] A small station, including two roofless platforms was located slightly to the north of the central part of the town.[6] A spacious rotary could be found in front of the station. Practically all buildings in this area were only single-storey-high.[6]

The central part of the map consisted of three areas: a northern hilly region (AREA 2), a dome (AREA 3) slightly to the north of the centre, as well as a farmland and forest region (AREA 4) to the south.[7] The hilly area consisted mostly of gently-sloping hills and meadows and thus offered a great view of the surrounding area, making it beneficial for snipers.[6] The farmland region was also mostly flat, making it useful for snipers as well.[6]

The eastern area of the battlefield consisted of the final three areas: a snowy mountain region to the north (AREA 5), a rocky mountain region (AREA 7) to the south, and a meadow (AREA 6) region, located slightly to the west of the intersection between the two mountain regions, to the east of the dome, and to the north of the centre of the eastern section.[7] The snowy mountain region consisted of gently-sloping mountains covered in snow, making it reminiscent of a skiing area.[6] The rocky mountain area, on the other hand, consisted of steep mountains with plenty of trees,[6] dotted with streams and man-sized rocks that impeded travel.[8] There are also valleys in between the mountains, at least one of which has a waterfall.[8]

The two mountain areas were connected by a slanted highway on a gigantic, at least a hundred-metre-high arch bridge located atop a valley.[6] The highway ended with tunnels into the mountains, extending outside the map's boundary.[6] The final area of the eastern section of the map consisted of a valley in-between the mountains that gradually became narrower to the east.[6] The valley is the only area in the map abundant with greenery with multiple bodies of water dotting the landscape.[6] A single, large building can be found in this area.[6] The building is a log house, with four brick chimneys and four balconies, that seemingly served as a hotel for people who had come to see the geysers that dot the valley.[9] The house is surrounded by a meadow, dotted with streams and ponds created by the geysers, that has esplanade-like gravel roads extending to the east.[9]

For the first tournament, the winning team received a signed set of twenty books written by the novelist sponsor.[3]

For the second tournament, the winning team received an assorted set of twenty assault rifles, the runners-up received a set of ten submachine guns, and the third-ranked team received a set of ten pistols. All participants were awarded with free ammunition.[3]
