Nobleman's Obligations (貴族の責任, Kizoku no Sekinin^?) is the ninth episode of the Sword Art Online Alicization anime adaptation. It aired on December 1, 2018.

Plot

Eugeo and Kirito have advanced to the rank of elite students at the academy, where they are assigned to mentor two novice students, Ronye Arabel and Tiese Shtolienen. One day, they are challenged by Humbert Zizek, the second-best student in their class, to a sword fight. Eugeo accepts the challenge and manages to hold his own against Humbert, resulting in a tie. Later, during a picnic with their mentees, Eugeo and Kirito learn that Humbert has been mistreating his own novice student, Frenica Szeski, by forcing her to do humiliating tasks. They decide to confront Humbert and his friend, Raios Antinous, about their behavior, but they are met with indifference and arrogance. Humbert and Raios claim that they are following the rules of the academy and that Frenica has no choice but to obey them. Eugeo is outraged by their attitude, but he is unable to do anything about it. Tiese, who is close friends with Frenica, is also devastated by the situation and fears that she might end up marrying someone like Humbert in the future. Eugeo tries to console her and promises to protect her from any harm.
