Eugeo was convinced that the woman in shining armor was none other than Alice, his childhood friend who had been taken away by the Axiom Church. However, she did not show any sign of recognition towards him or Kirito, the swordsman from another world who had become his partner. Instead, she arrested them for violating the Taboo Index and brought them to a prison cell in the Central Cathedral. Kirito and Eugeo did not give up hope and used their high object control authority, a rare skill that allowed them to manipulate the properties of objects, to escape from their confinement. They decided to climb up the tower and confront the Administrator, the ruler of the Underworld, who was behind Alice's abduction and brainwashing. However, Alice had anticipated their move and dispatched another Integrity Knight, a powerful warrior loyal to the Axiom Church, to stop them. Meanwhile, in the real world, Asuna, Kirito's girlfriend and a skilled player of virtual reality games, was introduced to the first prototype of an AI robot that was being developed at the Ocean Turtle, a secret facility in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. She learned that the robot was connected to the Underworld, a simulation of a medieval society where Kirito had been trapped for more than a year
