Ruler and Mediator (支配者と調停者, Shihaisha to Chouteisha^?) is the thirteenth episode of the Sword Art Online Alicization anime adaptation. It aired on January 5, 2019.

Plot

The story flashes back to a time when the Administrator was losing her memory space due to the accumulation of data. She decided to use a child as a memory storage device by linking their fluctlights. However, this was a grave error on her part, as it gave the child the same level of authority and power as the Administrator. The child, who later became the Cardinal of the Great Library, realized this and tried to overthrow the Administrator but failed. Cardinal escaped to one of the two places where The Administrator's authority did not reach: the Great Library. There, she spent two centuries plotting to defeat the Administrator and restore order to the Underworld. Along the way, she encountered Kirito and Eugeo, who were on a quest to rescue Alice. She also revealed to them how to recover the memories of the Integrity Knights, who were brainwashed by the Administrator. Thus, the Cardinal formed an alliance with Kirito and Eugeo to challenge the Administrator and reclaim Alice.
