Crimson Memories (紅の記憶, Kurenai no Kioku^?) is the seventh episode of the Sword Art Online II anime adaptation, as well as the seventh episode in the Phantom Bullet Arc. It aired on August 16, 2014.

Plot

In the Kirigaya residence, Suguha (Leafa) showed Kazuto (Kirito) a news article about the participants of the Bullet of Bullets tournament, among which was Kazuto's avatar's name, Kirito. Although Kazuto tried to hide the fact that he had converted to Gun Gale Online, Suguha revealed she had already discovered about it from Asuna. After Kazuto had a flashback of a talk with Asuna the previous day, during which Asuna suggested converting to the game as well to assist him, but Kazuto declined the offer. After the flasback, Suguha told him that she was worried, as Kazuto had a scary face when he came back home the previous night. Kazuto then calmed Suguha down by promising that he would be back, as today was his last day.

Shino venting her anger about Kirito to Kyouji

Meanwhile, Shino (Sinon) was venting her anger about Kirito to Kyouji (Spiegel), even making a gun gesture with her hand without suffering her usual symptoms for the first time in years. After a few minutes, Kyouji then told her that she was not acting like her normal self, claiming that she had never been angry or talked about someone like that before. After praising her for everything else and saying he was worried, Kyouji tried to hug her, but was pushed back. Shino explained that she was not ready for such feelings and felt that she had to resolve her problem by fighting, thus she asked him to wait until the tournament was over before giving a response. Although disappointed, Kyouji agreed.

At the hospital, seeing that Kazuto was troubled by something, Nurse Aki offered a free counselling session. When Kazuto told her about how he had killed red players in Sword Art Online, Aki hugged and told him that she could not help him with that burden, but reminded him that he killed them to protect others. She also claimed that he would not be suffering so much if he had truly forgotten about what he did. After calming down, Kazuto logged into Gun Gale Online.

Meanwhile, in ALfheim Online, while Asuna and the others were fighting a monster, Asuna got distracted and barely managed to chant a healing spell on time to save Klein from getting poisoned to death. After the defeat of the monster, the team got ready to watch the broadcast of the Bullet of Bullets tournament, which Asuna had been apprehensive about.

In Gun Gale Online, Sinon ran into Spiegel, and they sat outside the Governor's Office. There, Spiegel asked about them being a couple again, but Sinon refused to have any distractions. After Spiegel stated that he believed in her and would wait for her, Sinon took her leave to get ready and Spiegel told her that he would cheer for her. Sinon then met Kirito at the governor's office by chance, and they told each other they would not lose.
