A «Thicket Spider» (シケット・スパイダー, Shiketto Supaidā?) is a non-winged insect-type monster found in the Forest of Wavering Mists on the 3rd Floor of Aincrad in Sword Art Online.

A Thicket Spider is one of the smallest spiders of its type, but is still a menacing sight, around one metre and a half from leg to leg, though in height, the spider only reaches the player's waist. Unlike other insect-type monsters, the spider's hide is not protected by hard shell.[1]

Attack PatternsEdit

A Thicket Spider's only direct attack is to bite its target with its venomous fangs, though the spider may also shoot its thread, which lasts for close to a minute, to slow the player down. The spider may also jump into the air, possibly inducing a Tumble status. Unlike other insect-type monsters, a Thicket Spider is not capable of flying nor running away and all of its attacks are simple and direct.[1]

Concerto of Black and WhiteEdit

On December 15, 2022, while searching for the Queen Spider's Nest, Kirito, Asuna and Kizmel encountered two Thicket Spiders. Kizmel left one of the spiders to Kirito and Asuna, taking on the other herself. Asuna began her attack with a «Linear» and dealt about forty percent damage with her Sword Skills and regular attacks. When the spider charged at her, Asuna hit the spider's fang with «Oblique» and both of them were knocked back. Kirito then switched with Asuna, but got lost in thought and glanced away for a moment. At that moment, the spider jumped into the air and as Kirito could not side step or counter with a heavy Sword Skill, he instead used the Martial Arts technique «Gengetsu» to kick the spider in midair, causing the spider to fall upside down. Kirito then finished the spider off with «Horizontal Arc».

  • The Thicket Spider's weak spot is its bulging abdomen.[1]
