Tiese Shtolienen (ティーゼ・シュトリーネン, Tīze Shutorīnen?) is a supporting character in the Alicization Arc. She was a low-ranking noble that attended the Sword Mastery Academy in North Centoria in Underworld, where she was appointed as Eugeo's valet as one of the twelve top-ranking students of her year. Along with her friend Ronye Arabel, Tiese was incited by higher-ranked nobles Raios Antinous and Humbert Zizek to lose her composure with them, allowing the two men to use loopholes in the rules overseeing the conduct of nobles to molest them. After this resulted in their seniors, Eugeo and Kirito, breaking the Taboo Index to save them, Tiese continued studying at the academy, eventually joining the Human Guardian Army's supply unit as a volunteer following the death of the Axiom Church's leader, Quinella, to assist in the defence of the Human Empire against the Dark Territory's invasion army.

Tiese is a pretty, slender girl with long, red hair, which is very rare in the Norlangarth North Empire.[4]

Tiese is always hardworking, diligent and positive. Eugeo described her as lively and filled with motivation and dedication.[4]
Background[]
Tiese is the eldest daughter of a 6th Class Noble family who entered the Sword Mastery Academy with an intent to raise her family status. She was a valet because she was one of the top 12 of her year, but she stated that it was not because she was an outstanding swordswoman, but instead that it was because the entrance exam was on a Sacred Arts that she was good at.

Tiese was introduced as Eugeo's valet, who has just finished cleaning his room and was ready to be dismissed along with Ronye Arabel when Kirito entered from the window and gave them a bag with honey pies and dismissed them by telling them to share it with their roommates.
Alicization Turning[]
Tiese and Ronye invited their two mentors on a picnic. While they are searching for a location to have the picnic, Tiese explained to Eugeo the difference between fifth and sixth class nobles compared to fourth class and higher nobles and the right the higher classes had to judge the lower ones.
During the picnic Tiese and Ronye requested their two mentors to help another valet, Frenica Szeski, who was being made to do embarrassing tasks by her mentor, Humbert Zizek.
Later, after cleaning Eugeo's room, Tiese was asked to have a seat and Eugeo explained that he had a talk with Humbert and that everything should be fine. Tiese continued by mentioning how she was afraid to marry into an upper class noble family out of fear that her spouse might be someone like Humbert. She then asked Eugeo to marry her if he placed high in the Four Empires Unity Tournament, since he would become an aristocrat for life as a result.
As Humbert continued abusing Frenica, Tiese visited Humbert and Raios' room with Ronye, becoming ensnared into their trap when they lost their composure and accused the nobles of misconduct. Due to this outburst giving Humbert and Raios pretext, Tiese and Ronye were detained as part of the two higher class nobles' plan to use their rights to punish lower class nobles for disrespect as an excuse to rape them. The two girls were saved, however, by the intervention of Eugeo, and later Kirito.

Having heard that Alice Synthesis Thirty had come to the Human Defence Army's camp with a black-haired young man, Tiese, along with Ronye, visited Alice to confirm their suspicion that the man was Kirito. When Alice informed the two of Eugeo's death and Kirito's state, Tiese collapsed on the rug, staring at the broken Blue Rose Sword without any expression on her face for a few moments, before she dared to touch the sword. Upon touching it, she heard the voice of Eugeo from the memories in the sword, consoling her.

Having placed among the top twelve Primary Trainees of the Imperial Swordcraft Academy in North Centoria, Tiese was appointed as Eugeo's page in the 4th Month of the 380th year of the Human Empire Calendar (HEC). Over the next few weeks, the swordswoman earnestly followed the lessons imparted to her by the Elite Disciple, which she applied while accompanying him, Kirito, and Ronye on extracurricular lessons, wherein Academy students would help the Centoria city guard with exterminating wild beasts. Encouraged by their mentors' praise of their performance during their first extracurricular lesson, the girls invited the boys to a picnic to express their gratitude, which further strengthened the bonds between the pages and Elite Disciples.
While returning to the Swordcraft Academy from another extracurricular lesson in the 5th Month of 380 HEC, Tiese and Ronye felt close enough to Eugeo and Kirito to inform them of the abuse their fellow page Frenica was experiencing from Humbert. Upset to discover Humbert's actions had been spurred by a perceived slight from Eugeo, the girl expressed confusion over how the fourth-rank noble's cruelty ran contrary to what her father had taught her about the nobility's duty to the lower classes. To her relief the next afternoon, her mentor reported he and Kirito had confronted Humbert over his conduct, which would hopefully discourage any further harassment.

- According to the naming convention in Underworld, each mora (syllable) in a person's name holds the wishes of the parents for their children. The name Tiese contains the traits of being energetic, helpful, and talented at military arts.[5]
