Tozawa Misumi (兎沢深澄(とざわみすみ), Tozawa Misumi^?), known as Mito (ミト, Mito^?) in «Sword Art Online» (SAO), is a movie-original character who serves as one of the two deuteragonists of Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night. Tozawa Misumi was a student at the Aeterna Girls' Academy, where she befriended her classmate Yuuki Asuna. Being one of the 1,000 beta testers for Sword Art Online, Misumi encouraged Asuna to play the game with her in the official release. On November 6, 2022, Misumi became one of the 10,000 players trapped in the public release version of «Sword Art Online» and temporarily formed a party with Asuna, until an accident in the field led her to believe that the latter had been killed by monsters.

Misumi is a slim girl with teal eyes^{[citation needed]} and long purple hair, with a lock that drapes over her forehead.^{[citation needed]} At school, she typically has her hair loose and dons a middle school uniform that includes a red bow tie, a soft amber sweater, a brown skirt, and thigh-high socks.^{[citation needed]} Outside of school, she ties her hair up in a ponytail, wears a cap and opts for plain, baggy street clothes.^{[citation needed]}

Misumi's beta test avatar in Sword Art Online, Mito, is a tall man dressed in a feminine one-piece outfit with thigh-high boots and a white cape. The avatar had a gruff face^[5] with red eyes and light purple hair, complemented by a chin beard of the same color.^{[citation needed]}

During Kayaba's SAO tutorial, Mito’s avatar was updated to closely resemble Misumi's real-life appearance. Her outfit remained unchanged from her beta avatar, and her hair was kept in a ponytail. Later, Mito dyed her eyes red to match her beta avatar's appearance. Sometime thereafter, Mito had her hair styled in braids by Asuna.

While gathering materials on Floor 3, Mito wore a new outfit in black and dark blue, paired with a dark, tattered cloak. On the 5th Floor, her attire featured a sleeveless reddish-brown top, a dark blue chestplate, a predominantly white shawl, and light-colored pants. Throughout the game, Mito used a scythe as her primary weapon.
