Yuuki Kouichirou (結城浩一郎,Yūki Kōichirō?) is a minor character throughout the Sword Art Online series. He is the older brother of Yuuki Asuna and would have been one of the 10,000 players to be trapped in Sword Art Online (SAO), if circumstances had not forced him to depart on a business trip on the first day of the game's official service.
Like his sister Asuna, Kouichirou attended a private school selected by their parents, and consistently retained excellent results. [3] He also received the full amount of education required to someday become his "father's successor" as a "representative director of RCT," [4] presumably regarding the subsidiaries of his father's larger RECT Inc. [5] Likely because of this, he was not permitted to participate in activities that detracted from his fixed career path. [4]
After attending his private school, he was later employed in his father's company, RECT Inc. [3] Due to his connections, he was able to buy a copy of Sword Art Online, [† 1] one of the few video games he showed an interest in (as well as in the NerveGear itself) as well as the first "he'd ever brought." [3][4] Never having played the game as even a beta tester, [† 2] he was called to an overseas business trip on the very first day of the game's official service, preventing him from trying the game on its first day. [3][4] On the night prior to his trip, he attempted "to laugh off the frustration" but was unable to hide his disappointment from Asuna. [4] Being unable to play the game himself, Kouichirou agreed to lend his NerveGear to his sister for a single day, which resulted in her becoming trapped in the game for the following two years.[3]
Notes[]
↑As it's implied that his overseas trip on November 6th was unexpected, it's unlikely that he brought SAO from a store on November 5th, having already knew about his trip. It is possible he bought the game via an online method on or after October 31st. It is also possible that his connections allowed him to buy the game through alternative means.
