Yuuki Kyouko (結城 京子, Yūki Kyōko?) is one of the main characters of the Mother's Rosario side story. Kyouko is the wife of Yuuki Shouzou and the mother of Yuuki Asuna and Yuuki Kouichirou.
Appearance[]
Kyouko is a fairly tall, middle-aged woman. Even though she is thin, her solid frame removes any sense of slimness. Her hair, which is dyed in a rich, brown color, is parted to the sides neatly cut along her jaw. Even though her face is beautiful, her high nose and jawline, as well as the deep wrinkles near her mouth create a severely cold impression.[5] Kyouko also has brown eyes.[6][7]
Personality[]
Yuuki Kyouko was a cold person who had resented being born in a family of farmers and desired a better future for her daughter.[5] To achieve this, Kyouko was willing to regulate various aspects of her daughter's life, from her education institution to her future spouse.[5] This was reflected in her strict parenting style as well, such as demanding her daughter to come to the table at a specific time,[5] forcefully expelling her out of FullDive when she was late and threatening to confiscate her AmuSphere.[8]
After Asuna opened up to her mother, Kyouko still carried the strict facade in her behavior, yet she also showed willingness to do what was best for her daughter by compromising from her regulating persona. She started approaching Asuna with a more open mind, and allowed her to decide her path in life, as long as she ensured her success on it.[9]
Background[]
Kyouko was born to a rice farmer family in Miyagi with a forest-like, traditional Japanese home.[10] As she grew up, she resented her status, and she wished that she was born to an upper-class family. After Asuna was born, she strove for her daughter to have a better life and a husband with a strong financial background, even choosing Sugou Nobuyuki as her future husband.[5] Despite this resulting in disaster, Kyouko attempted to arrange a relationship between Asuna and her cousin, Yuuya, who she thought was materially free, although she claimed that anyone else who was outstanding would be just as suitable her partner in life as well.[5]
Chronology[]
Mother's Rosario[]
At dinner on January 6, 2026, Kyouko sternly chided her daughter for tardiness arrived late. As the two ate in silence, Kyouko rebuked Asuna for her usage of the AmuSphere to work on her assignments, believing it detracted from her academic performance. When Asuna protested that her grades for her second semester at the SAO Survivor School were sufficient, Kyouko declared that evaluations from that facility were inadequate, and thus announced that Asuna would be receiving lessons from a personal tutor for the next semester. She also revealed she had used her connections to procure access to a test that would allow her to transfer to another high school. This school would allow her to graduate in a single semester, and thus be admitted to a university the following autumn.
Upon Asuna objecting to her actions, Kyouko criticized the low standards and requirements of Asuna's current school, arguing that continued attendance at the survivor school would limit her choices in life and restrict her potential. When Asuna argued that her mother was the one limiting her choices by attempting to choose her spouse for her, Kyouko asserted that marriage to a financially stable individual was part of a successful career. Although willing to let Asuna to choose her husband herself, Kyouko demanded that her chosen person was worthy of her, which excluded Kazuto and other students at her school. As Asuna excused herself, Kyouko instructed her to prepare the necessary forms and leave them on her desk by the following week. Just as Asuna was about to leave to her room, Kyouko was briefly shocked by her daughter questioning whether she still felt shame due to being born to farmers, before angrily ordering her to return, to no avail.
The next evening on January 7, when Asuna failed to appear for dinner again, Kyouko went to her room at around 18:35 and disconnected her AmuSphere mid-game, just as she had promised her the last time she was late for a meal the previous month. After warning Asuna that her AmuSphere would be confiscated the next time it interfered with her responsibilities, Kyouko remarked how incomprehensible her daughter's fascination with the device was, seeing as Asuna had lost two years of her life due to one such device. Several moments after leaving her daughter's room, Kyouko noticed that Asuna was about to leave the house, thus she questioned her daughter on this. As she did not receive an answer, Kyouko attempted to remotely barricade the front door before Asuna could leave but failed to do so in time.
Sometime past 21:00 on January 12, Kyouko was working at her computer in her study when she was visited by Asuna with a request to have a conversation with her in the virtual world. Although initially against the idea, Kyouko reluctantly agreed to temporarily use Kouichirou's AmuSphere due to her daughter asserting she could not properly express her feelings and thoughts otherwise. After accepting the device, the woman logged into ALfheim Online as Erika, Asuna's Sylph subaccount. Once Asuna joined her in her Undine main account a few minutes later, Erika followed the girl through her daughter's log cabin to a window overlooking a snow-covered cedar forest.
When Erika realised that the scenery was reminiscent of her childhood home, she learned from Asuna that her parents had maintained their home until their deaths so that she could have a place to return if she ever became weary. Influenced by her experience, the next morning on January 13, Kyouko permitted Asuna to stay in her current school for the time being, but informed her that she had to work hard to become strong enough to support the person of her choice.
